University of Birjand’s New Journal Earns Q4 Ranking in First Scopus Evaluation

Birjand, Iran — The scientific journal Environmental Stresses in Crop Sciences, affiliated with the University of Birjand, has successfully achieved Q4 ranking in its very first evaluation by the prestigious Scopus database.

According to the University of Birjand’s Public Relations and Information Office, Dr. Marziyeh Saghabjoo, Vice President for Research, Technology, and Innovation, announced this milestone. The journal, which was indexed in Scopus starting in 2025 as the university’s second journal in the database, secured Q4 status in its inaugural assessment.

Dr. Saghabjoo described the achievement as an important step toward enhancing the university’s international scientific standing. The journal is published quarterly in Persian with extended English abstracts.

Journal Leadership and Scope

  • Responsible Manager: Dr. Majid Jami Al-Ahmadi, Professor of Plant Production and Genetics Engineering at the University of Birjand.  
  • Editor-in-Chief: Dr. Mohammad Kafi, Professor of Agrotechnology at Ferdowsi University of Mashhad.

Significance of the Achievement

Scopus is one of the world’s leading abstract and citation databases. Indexing and ranking in Scopus confirm the journal’s scientific quality, international credibility, and adherence to rigorous publishing standards. This recognition increases the visibility of published articles, boosts citation rates, and facilitates stronger scientific collaborations with researchers both inside and outside Iran.

Dr. Saghabjoo emphasized that obtaining a Q4 ranking in the first year of evaluation demonstrates the journal’s alignment with international academic publishing criteria. She expressed hope that this success will pave the way for further improvements in future rankings and contribute to strengthening Iran’s scientific authority in the field of agronomy.

The Vice President for Research, Technology, and Innovation congratulated the Responsible Manager, Editor-in-Chief, editorial board members, and the broader scientific community of the university on this valuable accomplishment. She wished continued growth and higher rankings for the journal in the coming years.
